| romanza
Instrumentation: Solo Cello
Duration: ca. 6'00"
Ensemble: Emma Schmiedecke, cello
Year Composed: 2016
Program Note:
A deep-seated longing or passion can manifest itself in many ways and through many circumstances. Romanza is a study in desire – eros, pathos, and philia – all intensified when the distance between oneself and the object of one’s attention appears to grow further, as time inevitably passes. A longing for ‘other’ constructs the work and informs its path, through moments of curiosity, lament, and (momentary) ecstasy.
SCORE EXCERPT
Romanza was commissioned by and dedicated to the incomparable Emma Schmiedecke
and supported in part by a residency at Marble House Project.
